Our Life Skills Centre is an "open to all" community workshop facility which is initially based on woodworking, using recycled timber and producing items for personal use and for re-sale; restoring, renovating or creating items of community value; we are moving strategically towards the recycling community and business waste. Our aim is to become financially stable by creating Social Enterprise companies which will reinvest profits to allow salaried workers to manage and run their own enterprises.
Your work so far is inspiring, the centre has been created by volunteers, our kitchen has been built with donated cupboards and cooker and other equipment, unused work benches have been cleaned up and painted, old doors and windows have been refurbished and installed, sanded and painted, bays are currently being erected to provide individual working areas for your own projects, a store room will be built to safely store and manage the use tools and equipment. Very often getting over the door is the hardest part for people who are looking to make changes in their lives and we recognise this, a new porch has been built to make us a new and attractive entrance to reception so that members can be greeted and made welcome and can be warmly directed to the appropriate people. Our next project is to build a craft shop within the centre, to display our items for retail and generate income for the centre; this will also create more volunteering opportunities.
If you have skills to offer or would like to learn skills, we have the opportunities, everyone can help and everyone is welcome. If in doubt - Ask Us? We will gratefully receive any paint, materials, tools, paint sheets, rags, cloths, brushes. If you have any items you don't need or are throwing away, please ask us first, we can make good use of allsorts from loo seats to ladders, from tea towels to old sheets. Interested? Try us! Examples of the work being done at the Life Skills Centre can be seen on the Activities page. Click on the images above to view the full size version. |
